A Strategic International Collaboration to Boost Trade and Investment
Commercial Representation’s Meeting with Latvia’s Ambassador to Egypt
In an effort to intensify economic and trade relations between Egypt and its European partners, Yahya Al-Wathiq Billah, Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Representation, held a meeting on January 21, 2025, with Andris Razāns, Ambassador of Latvia to Egypt, and Ieva Juste, the Economic and Trade Attaché at the Latvian Embassy in Cairo. Also present at the meeting were Nasser Hamed, Director of EU Affairs at the Commercial Representation, and Naglaa Akl, founder of New Benefit.
Enhancing Strategic Cooperation
At the outset of the meeting, Ambassador Andris Razāns praised the strong political and commercial ties between Egypt and Latvia, highlighting the frequent visits and exchanges between the two nations. He expressed his eagerness to further enhance economic cooperation to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
Future Collaboration Focus Areas
The discussion centered on expanding areas of cooperation with Latvia, particularly in the following key sectors:
– Knowledge Economy: Fostering investment in knowledge-based industries.
– Digital Technologies: Advancing digital transformation and technological collaboration.
– Innovation and Advanced Technologies: Encouraging innovation in emerging industries.
– Trade Expansion: Increasing the trade volume between the two countries, particularly in areas where Egypt has a competitive advantage.

Strengthening Bilateral Economic Relations
The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral economic relations, particularly in the commercial and investment sectors. This will be achieved through direct cooperation between relevant governmental institutions, facilitating information exchange, boosting industrial capacities, and encouraging both countries’ business communities to invest and expand trade.
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Engagement with Key Latvian Organizations
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance economic cooperation between Egypt and Latvia, New Benefit has laid the groundwork for future engagement with key Latvian organizations. These include the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA), the Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA), AmCham (American Chamber of Commerce in Latvia), the Foreign Investors Council in Latvia (FICIL), and the Latvian Traders Association.
This collaboration will culminate in a visit planned for March 2025, aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties. During this visit, B2B meetings will be organized between Latvian and Egyptian business leaders in sectors of mutual interest. Both nations are eager to explore new avenues for economic success and growth.
